U.S. Navy Awards Exquadrum Contract to Demonstrate Real-Time Thrust Control of Solid Propellants
VICTORVILLE, CA. 17 Jul 2024 – Exquadrum, Inc. has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy to demonstrate real-time thrust control of solid propellants, under a program entitled Electric Pulse Ignition Controllable SRM (EPICS). This program will demonstrate the feasibility of a breakthrough in propellant formulation that provides safe ignition in response to a specialized electrical input. The contract, out of NAVAIR/NAWC Weapons Division, China Lake, CA, seeks to develop technology to enable real-time thrust control of tactical solid propellant rocket motors to achieve the U.S. Navy’s vision for collaborative munitions where in-flight missiles can be redirected and throttled to engage evolving threats.
Kevin Mahaffy, Exquadrum’s CEO and co-founder said, “Exquadrum was founded to pursue controllable solid rocket motors. We are excited about working with the Naval Air Warfare Center to advance our technology to meet the urgent needs of our Warfighters in the field!” Exquadrum’s advanced technology will enable the U.S. Navy to deploy a higher performing, solid propellant rocket motor in which the performance (thrust/time) can be selected at ignition or modified during motor operation to allow for smart/networked weapon systems that can also fill multiple, warfighter needs and respond to evolving threats. Exquadrum will conduct a static, hot-fire demonstration of the technology during the contracted program at the company’s FORGE development and test site at the Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA) in Victorville, CA.
