On a ‘Curiosity Quest’

VICTORVILLE — Host Joel Greene and his PBS “Curiosity Quest Problem Solvers” film crew were on hand as students from several local high schools participated in the “2nd annual Curiosity Quest Engineering Competition.” Student teams from Apple Valley, Hesperia, Sultana and Yucaipa high schools presented their 3D-printed cantilevered truss structures to educators and GE officials minutes before they were scheduled for testing at the GE Flight Test Operation facility at the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville. ADELANTO, CA, 20 Nov 2018 – A team comprised of Exquadrum, Inc. of Adelanto, Calif., and Dynetics, Inc. of Huntsville, Ala., has been awarded a contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Under the Operational Fires (OpFires) Propulsion System program, the team will design and develop innovative technologies that enable an advanced tactical weapon system. (more…)

Engineering excitement: PBS ‘Curiosity Quest Problem Solvers’ films local high school students in space challenge

ADELANTO — Student engineering teams watched off camera as water exploded from their 3-D printed, sphere-shaped containers. Yelps of excitement and disappointment filled the small trailer packed with students, engineers and a film crew. Apple Valley, Hesperia and Sultana high school engineering teams were put to the task of creating a container that would be injected with water that could withstand up to 500 pounds of pressure per square inch for 10 seconds at the lowest weight possible. Local veteran and employer thankful for new connection

Adelanto Company Developing New Rocket Engine

ADELANTO — In the quest to build a better rocket engine, an Adelanto company has invented a new gas-propelled engine that Eric Schmidt says is light years ahead of its time. Schmidt, the current mayor of Hesperia, is part of a team of engineers and rocket scientists at Exquadrum, a private contracting company that works on behalf of various components of the Department of Defense. Pentagon’s multi-million dollar contract involves Adelanto company

ADELANTO — A multi-million dollar contract from the federal government for a new air-delivered bunker-buster bomb capable of penetrating six feet of reinforced concrete will include technology developed in the High Desert. ADELANTO – For the small Adelanto firm named Exquadrum Inc. — that’s pseudo Latin for “thinking outside the box” — rocket science is their bread and butter. The research and development engineering firm is headquartered at the Southern California Logistics Airport and its main office sits in a sleepy corner of the Adelanto desert a few miles from SCLA.
